Source: citifmonline.com - Police in the Northern Region have launched a manhunt for two suspects whose actions allegedly led to the death of two people, during the celebration of the fire festival in the region last Sunday. In the first incident, a middle-aged man was hacked to death with a cutlass at Walewale, while in the second case, a tipper truck driver ran into some celebrants at Sank in the Mion District, killing one person.
Other parts of the region also recorded some violent incidents leaving some persons injured. The Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told Citi News that the Police will not rest until the “suspects who are currently on the run” are apprehended. He narrated that the incident at Walewale “happened during the wee hours of the day so the one who did that is on the run, the same thing applies to the driver who drove into the crowd.” He noted that information they have picked up at Sank suggest that the Tipper truck driver deliberately drove into the crowd. “It was deliberate because he saw the crowd and instead of him pulling up allowing the crowd to pass by, he drove into them, that was how come one person died. So we are still looking for him.” ASP Tetteh said, the Police in the region are collaborating with the chiefs of the two towns to arrest the perpetrators. “…because most people in these small communities know themselves so that the person will be fished out,” ASP Tetteh added. |
