This has improved the growth potential of m-commerce and m-banking services. MTN Ghana’s Mobile Money service is very popular, complemented by its new ‘ATM Cash Out’ service. The launch of Mobile Number Portability in mid-2011 has also been a catalyst for competition between players, with the number of portings by mid-2013 having increased 21% year-on-year. Press Release - Voluntary Disengagement 9 February 2009
Issued by the Corporate Communications Department
In August 2008, the Government of Ghana signed an agreement with Vodafone in respect of Ghana Telecom by which Vodafone acquired seventy percent (70%) shares in Ghana Telecom.
Under that arrangement, Vodafone also assumed management responsibility for the Company. Apart from the immediate monetary advantage that this sale provided for the government of Ghana, it also offered the opportunity to inject additional capital into the growth and enhancement of Ghana Telecom.
In order to deliver enhanced value to its customers and to improve its competitive position in the market, Vodafone has embarked on an organisational transformation exercise which is aimed at repositioning GT in a very competitive market place.
This means that among other measures, the company must improve the consumer access to its services and make its operations more effective and efficient by employing a structure that will ensure the achievement of business objectives and also deliver better value to all stakeholders – shareholders, employees, consumers, suppliers and other partners alike.
It also means deepening and expanding the company’s skills base and technology platforms to better connect with customers and to be able to generate and sustain improvements in the customer experience of Vodafone products as well as to support the rollout of new products and services to enhance the customer experience.
During the course of this restructuring exercise, management has noted a widespread desire and intention on the part of a significant number of members of staff to sever their employment relationship with the company if a beneficial package is arranged and offered to them for consideration.
It is in this light that management has decided to facilitate the disengagement of such employees who are looking to voluntarily end their services with the company by offering a voluntary disengagement package for those who wish to take advantage of it.
Employees who wish to leave will thus be supported to do so with a fair disengagement package and a Transition Support Program to assist such employees to adapt to life after GT.
