Transportation in Ghana
Transport by Road, Rail, Water or Air
Ghana's transportation networks are centered in the southern and middle regions (Greater Accra, Central, Western and Ashantie region), especially the areas in which gold, cocoa, and timber are produced. The northern and central areas are connected through major road systems, served by STC InterCity Bus, METRO Bus, and in few areas by rail-link.
Increased transport investment int the road inra-structure, helped to increase the number of new vehicle registrations. Transportation alternatives include rail, road, ferry, and air. The government has invested much into the 3 main-airports of Ghana. (Accra - Greater Accra region, Kumasi - Ashantie region and Tamale - Northern region) |

Transportation in Ghana
There are daily STC-Intercity Bus connections, to all 10 (regional) capitals of Ghana. Nearly all destinations, are served by private coach companies as well. But STC is the most comfortable and safest choice, as they provide high security on some routes, having even Police traveling on the bus. Traveling to Kumasi and Tamale, we recommend you to fly, from Accra, as it will take easy up to 10 hours by bus, from Accra - Tamale. There are only few modern rest stops, between the 3 major cities of Accra, Kumasi and Tamale. STC-Bus goes as far as Lagos (Nigeria), via Lome (Togo), or to Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
There are other (private) bus companies, as V.I.P. travel and O.A. Travel and Tours, providing transportation to and from major cities within Ghana.

TroTro - A cheap meaning of transportation, even into far away villages. TroTro and shared Taxi are the main transportation of Ghanaians, while private transport plays a secondary role. The transport is however accepted by the local population, but might be uncomfortable for tourist visitors to Ghana, as there is never much space in any of the TroTro.
