We have been visiting the museum, for end inspection, with the [at this time] Minister of Works and Housing, Hon. Albert Abongo. After this tour, we covered as well the centenary celebrations at Nkroful, and later in Accra.

Accra, May 15, (2008) GNA - The Convention People's Party has launched its plans for celebration of the Kwame Nkrumah Centenary. The National Chairman of CPP, Ladi Nylander confirmed this on Friday when the Chairman of the Centenary Planning Committee, Mr Kojo Armah presented their report to him.
A statement signed by Mr Nylander and Mr Armah said the CPP aimed to make this centenary celebration a time for reflection on Kwame Nkrumah's life and its impact on our nation and continent.
"But more importantly key events of the celebrations will signal to the youth of today, the relevance of Kwame Nkrumah's message of selfless dedication in the pursuit of prosperity and national unity for Ghana and African people's at large.," it said.
The statement noted that today more than ever, the future of our youth in Ghana and Africa was inextricably linked with the fortunes of the human race on a global scale.

The statement noted that today more than ever, the future of our youth in Ghana and Africa was inextricably linked with the fortunes of the human race on a global scale.
"However our position as African people in the global market place has never been so precarious. "With less than one per cent of Global Foreign Direct Investment for the entire continent, our individual countries have felt the persistence of denial of investment deepen as its flow has reduced. "That notwithstanding the potential impact of losing millions of jobs now and more in the future, beckons us to wake up to the possibility of a continent that may slip into perpetual slumber, as if in hibernation."
The CPP said Africa must wake up now to its true potential and Ghana must step up once again to its mantle as bearer of the torch that lit the way forward into the future. It said there was no better time and moment to do this than on the centenary of the original torch bearer himself, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The CPP said the seeds of discord, mistrust and prejudice that had plagued our memory for so long must be purged once and for all if we are to realize our true potential as a nation that is united in the pursuit of a common destiny.
Highlights of the year long Centenary celebrations will include the 37th anniversary of the death of the Osagyefo on April 27, the 60th anniversary of the founding of the CPP on June 12, 2009, the Centenary anniversary September 21, 2009.

National- with prizes which could include scholarships, Library books, PCs, among other things, a cultural festival - to include re-enactment of turning points in our national life that revolve around the life and times of Kwame Nkrumah, reprinting and procurement of Nkrumah's books for wide distribution and International football matches involving local teams and teams from countries chosen for both historical and geographical relevance to Ghana.
Other events would be flag raising ceremony - at the mausoleum and at Nkroful in the first week in September, Gala Dinner/Dance - at a Banquet to honour the founding father and elders of the party and photo exhibition on Nkrumah - Life and works in the regions. A Fitting Memorial Museum for Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah at Nkroful The African Star Kwame Nkrumah, burst upon the world international stage on March 6, 1957. The date the tables turned, as a British colonial official called it six years earlier, the “most daring political experience yet carried out in Africa.” As history unfolded, at midnight, Nkrumah presided over a solemn ceremony at Black Star square in the capital city of Accra as the symbol of a century of British colonial rule over the Gold Coast, the Union Jack, slipped beneath the floodlights. |
Rising in its place was the tri-colour flag of red, gold, and green, with a black star at its centre, the standard of the new, independent nation of Ghana, the first British colony in Africa to achieve sovereignty in the 20th century. What a remarkable achievement indeed.
Kwame Nkrumah’s parents; Their son Kwame never build them a family home as a legacy for their family, even though he was the first President of Ghana. He put Ghana first, and never got the chance later. This is an opportunity to put that right, in a small way.

Having such a memory museum in Nkroful is one way, how Ghana can say "Thank You!"
Ghanaians must raise the profile of Kwame Nkrumah always. It would have been nice to see Ghana working in partnership with the late President ‘s family to discuss perhaps building a fitting family home would like a monument for Ghana desperate tourists industry. Many people all over of the world know of Kwame Nkrumah more than any other name in Ghana and the rest of Africa. Ghana needs to be smart enough and focus strategically in building a memorial museum that would exalt the late President whose selflessness is what we are enjoying now. Today Ghanaians every where are proud to be called Ghanaians. Ghana has positioning and above all established itself to do business with all what we call the developed countries, for example Switzerland, Sweden, British, U.S, France and many more in the 1950’s. |
The high & lows of our late President Kwame Nkrumah.

v 1957 Became the first Prime Minister of Ghana upon its independence, a title that changed to be President in 1960.
v Kwame was even able to convince and influenced African American luminaries like as Ralph Bunche, the chief United Nations trouble-shooter; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., fresh from the success of the Montgomery bus boycott; A. Philip Randolph, the grand old man of the civil-rights and labour movements; and Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Harlem congressman and pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist church to come down and witness our special day.

v 1966 Was removed from power by military forces while travelling in Asia, and lived the remainder of his life in exile
v Nkrumah was awarded the 1962 Lenin Peace Prize for his leadership in Pan-Africanism and anticolonialism.
v Nkrumah died in Bucharest, Romania, while undergoing treatment for cancer.
v In 1961 Nkrumah invited black American scholar W.E.B. Du Bois to live in Ghana, where Du Bois began work on his unfinished Encyclopaedia Africana.
Ghanaians must be positive and realised how lucky we are right now, had it not been the selfless act of Kwame Nkrumah and his team of Ministers. Kwame saw so much and was trying to push Ghana through towards our freedom. Looking around us we could all see what is happening to other African countries. Kwame Nkrumah made us to be the first African country to be assertive and take no nonsense to approach to obsession.
Ghana is privileged now than ever. As the saying goes “the first shall be the last”. Hence when Britain was struggling for its existence during the Second World War, they rose to face adversity and triumphed. Even Germany rebuilt itself from an even greater devastation.
Let us as Ghanaians exalt our late President Kwame Nkrumah’s memory and offer him a purposely-built memorial museum in his home town which could also attract our children, tourists and others.
In conclusion, I would like to mention that although our President may have plans to honour the immediate family of our late President and whose vision we are still aspiring, I would emphasise that this honour is necessary. The whole African continent, African Americans and Africa descendants everywhere would be proud to see this happen.
Also the time is right for the Federal state of United State to acknowledge Kwame’s achievements and perhaps include in their school curriculum a section for all American to know more about the history of our freedom.
I also hope the British Government could voice their recognition of Kwame Nkrumah’s acheivements for Africa and the commonwealth.
Kwame Nkrumah did so much to raise the profile of black people world wide in the middle of the 20th century.
